Description
A rare Parisian Art Deco commode/sideboard by Jules Leleu, featuring exquisite ebony and mother-of-pearl inlaid marquetry, as well as bronze mounts. The doors are adorned with a marquetry butterfly and floral spray by Messager, and when opened, reveal a sycamore-lined interior with an adjustable shelf. The commode is supported by shaped end supports with gilt bronze mounts and sabots.
In excellent condition and of wonderful colour, retaining both of the original steel and bronze keys. An extremely rare piece by one of the key early designers of the Art Deco movement Jules Leleu, reminiscent of his famous ‘Feu d’artifice’ commode.
