Description

Exquisite boulle and ormolu mounted games table in the French Louis XVI style, attributed to Thomas Parker (active 1805-1830), England circa 1825. Epitomizing opulent Francophile tastes, it exemplifies an artistic movement aligned with King George IV. Featuring Louis XIV-inspired design, cabriole legs, and a mother-of-pearl inlaid chessboard adorned with splendid ormolu mounts and red ground boulle work. Mask mounts evoke Bacchus, hinting at their recreational purpose. Intricate contra partie boulle work, vibrant mother-of-pearl, and detailed sabot mounts enhance its allure. Part of a Parker family collection, these tables were linked to Carlton House, with a related table at Sotheby's (2017) and one at Butchoff Antiques.
